Cindy Briggs Tobin, Senior Director of Development and Alumni Relations
Cindy Briggs Tobin joined Tufts University in 2000 as the Friedman School’s Director of Annual Giving and Alumni Relations. She has since been promoted to the school’s Director of Development and Alumni Relations. In this role, she develops and leads the team’s outreach and fundraising activities. She also works with volunteer leaders, such as the Board of Overseers and the Development Committee, as well as major gift and capital gift donors. She looks forward to connecting with alumni and friends, to hear about their interests in nutrition and health.
Cindy has over 15 years experience in managing fundraising programs, volunteers, and special events. She graduated from Syracuse University with a double major in English and Psychology, and received a master’s degree in public relations, with a concentration in nonprofits and government, from Boston University’s College of Communication.
Cindy lives outside Boston with her husband, Jonathan, and two cats, Mo and Maeve. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, checking out the Boston area’s restaurant scene, and following professional football. (Go Pats!)
Susan Peecher, Director of Development
In August 2015, Susan returned to Tufts to take on the new role of Director of Development for the Friedman School and HNRCA. Most recently she was the Senior Leadership Giving Officer for International Philanthropy at MIT School of Management. From 2005-2014, Susan was the Senior Associate Director of Development and Stewardship for the Tufts School of Dental Medicine, playing an integral role in the school’s success during the Beyond Boundaries campaign and on key projects, such as, the school’s vertical expansion. Susan’s strong background in development and alumni relations also includes a variety of roles at Simmons College. At Friedman, Susan will be focusing on major gift fundraising as well as managing the Director for Annual Giving and the Associate Director of Alumni Relations.
Nancy Mehegan, Assistant Director of Stewardship and Communications
Nancy joined Tufts in March 2015 as the Assistant Director of Stewardship for the Friedman School. In her current role, Nancy manages events, donor relations, gift acknowledgments, and communications projects. She also manages the department’s eNews.
Prior to Tufts, Nancy served for ten years as director and writer for 96 Inc, the Boston-based literary magazine and nonprofit. She currently serves as Publicity Chairman for Lynch Elementary School in Winchester and as a freelance writer for the Winchester Star.
Nancy enjoys reading, writing, the work of Edwidge Danticat, librarians, museums, movies, and exploring nature.
Kelly Melcher, Associate Director of Alumni Relations
Kelly Melcher joined the Friedman School as the Associate Director of Alumni Relations in February 2014. In this role, she works with the Alumni Association Executive Council to foster alumni engagement around the world.
Prior to Tufts, Kelly spent six years at Jumpstart, where she designed and established the organization’s national alumni network. She is a graduate of the University of Rochester, a returned Peace Corps volunteer, and an AmeriCorps alum.
Kelly resides outside of Boston and spends most of her spare time being active. She enjoys gardening, skiing, golfing, playing field hockey, and volunteering.
Samuel Bailey, Staff Assistant
Samuel joined the team as the Staff Assistant for Development and Alumni Relations at the Friedman School as of August 10, 2015. He responsible for providing administrative support for the team and helping with communications and events. Samuel came to Tufts from the University of Tulsa where he was the Development Assistant for the Golden Hurricane Club, the university’s athletics fundraising arm.
Samuel enjoys waterskiing, running, sailing, soccer, hockey and anything outside.
