Types of Gifts
Outright Gifts
Outright gifts include cash, stock/securities, real estate, or personal property. Gifts may be made in a lump sum or by installment over a period of time within the fiscal year. Tufts’ fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30.
Matching Gifts
Matching gifts from your employer can often double or triple your gift to Tufts. To find out if your or your spouse's company will match your gift, visit our online database or contact your company's personnel office. Your company's personnel office can also provide a form that you will need to send with your gift to Tufts, in order for the matching gift to be processed. This matching gift will be directed to the same purpose as your personal gift.
Gifts of Securities
Gifts of securities that have been held long term can realize two benefits: you receive a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the securities, and at the same time you avoid capital gains taxes on the appreciated assets.
Please note: the securities must be given to Tufts University. If you sell the securities and donate the proceeds, you will not realize the same tax benefits.
