April 4-6, 2009
Saturday: We kicked off reunion with a volunteer service project at the Greater Boston Food Bank. Almost 20 alumni, students and staff gathered to help sort and distribute food. The Friedman School, along with the other GBFB volunteers that day, sorted over 15,000 pounds of food for families and agencies in Massachusetts.
Later that night, attendees met up for drinks and hors d’œuvres at Vlora Restaurant, where recent graduates (2004-2008) were honored with a private one hour reception.

In addition, the 2009 Gershoff Symposium marked the 11th occurrence of this annual gathering of students, researchers and professionals in the nutrition science and policy field. This year's symposium was titled "Genetically Modified Organisms: ImaGENEing the Future of Food". At the close of the symposium, Dr. Gershoff along with the Friedman School had the pleasure and honor of presenting the second annual Stanley N. Gershoff, Simon J. Simonian, Arpi A. Simonian Prize for Research Excellence in Nutrition Science and Policy to Natalie Valpiani. This prize was established in 2006 by the generosity of Simon and Arpi Simonian. The purpose of the prize is to honor a Masters or Doctoral student who has excelled in their chosen field of study and who exemplifies the creativity and dedication to the discipline of nutrition of Dr. Stanley Gershoff.
