We need your help to recognize some outstanding alumni!
Every year, at the All-Alumni Reunion in April, we honor alumni who have been humanitarians, innovators and/o leadersr in their field. Please read the following information about how to nominate graduates of the Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy for their exceptional achievements to receive one of our three awards.
New this year is the Leah Horowitz Humanitarian Award. This award remembers Leah Horowitz (FPAN ’06), who died tragically in a car accident in Ghana in May of 2009. Read more about Leah Horowitz and the award in her honor.

Eligibility
- All alumni of the Frances Stern Nutrition Center Dietetic internship/M.S. program
- All alumni who graduated from any of the School of Nutrition programs (M.S., Ph.D.) after 1981
- Someone who has made outstanding contributions to the field of nutrition over the course of his/her career
- Someone who is currently doing cutting-edge or high impact work in the field
- Someone who achieves lasting change by empowering individuals in their local communities
- Working domestically or working abroad
- Engaged in any aspect of the field:
- Basic science, applied science, policy, community outreach, clinical dietetics, education, business, or other field
How to Make a Nomination
There are three components to the nomination process.

- Write a letter supporting the nomination (click here for guidelines). Please include one letter for each award the alumni is being nominated for
- Send the nominee's current resume or curriculum vitae (CV). If you do not have a copy, fill out as much personal information as possible.

The nomination deadline is December 15, 2009. You may nominate as many people as you wish including yourself. You will be contacted for further information about your nomination(s).
Awards will be presented at the 8th Annual All-Alumni Reunion, April 10-12, 2010.
Letter of Support Information
Please describe the reasons why you think the nominee is deserving of this recognition. Please include information that would be relevant to one or both of the two areas described below. Feel free to add any additional information you think will be helpful to the evaluation committee in their selection process. If nominating one person for more than one award, please enclose a separate letter per award based on the listed criteria.
Services to the Profession Award
Leadership and/or recognition within the nutrition profession:
Please describe how the applicant has taken a leadership role within the nutrition profession.
Consider the following questions:
- Has the nominee been involved in professional organizations at an international, national and/or state level?
- Has the nominee been involved in international, national and/or state coalitions, committees and/or partnerships?
- Has the nominee spoken at local, state, national and/or international conferences and meetings? Is s/he recognized as a leader in a certain area of expertise?
- Other awards, nominations, or special recognitions that the nominee has received for their contributions.
Frontline Award
Expertise and/or innovation within the nutrition profession:
Please describe how the applicant's expertise is applied within the nutrition profession.
Consider the following questions:
- How has the work of the nominee met an existing need of the public, a specific population/target audience, and/or the nutrition profession?
- How has the work of the nominee illustrated creativity, originality, innovation and/or a vision within the field of nutrition?
- Has the nominee published significant scholarly books, articles or other forms of media in his/her specific field?
